Washington [US], October 20: Former US President Donald Trump walked around the campaign stage for nearly 20 minutes on the evening of October 18 in Detroit, Michigan (USA) after a sound problem.
The incident occurred as Mr. Trump was about to speak on the topic of tariffs. After the incident, Mr. Trump tried another handheld microphone but it did not work. To kill time, Mr. Trump walked around the stage for about 18 minutes, talking to staffers to the cheers of the crowd, according to USA Today.
The crowd chanted "USA" and "we love Trump" in support of the former president.
"I'm not going to pay the stupid company that rented this space to us. I'm not going to pay it and then we're going to have a story that Mr. Trump didn't pay a contractor," Mr. Trump said.
According to PBS News, Mr. Trump is famous for paying attention to the image and technique of his rallies. He often pays close attention to microphones and teleprompters. Mr. Trump's aides were said to have brought several backup microphones on October 18 in Detroit.
A Trump campaign spokesman and the former president's Detroit rally center have not commented on the incident.
This is the second time in a week that Mr. Trump has had an incident at a campaign event. The most recent time, at a rally in Pennsylvania , Mr. Trump interrupted the rally and played music after some audience members needed urgent medical attention. According to USA Today , Mr. Trump seemed surprised by the incident and stood silently while the screen displayed messages of "technical difficulties" and "business complications."
At a rally in Tucson, Arizona ( USA), former US President Barack Obama mocked Mr. Trump: "Can you imagine if I did that? Now, our playlist would probably be better."
The rapid response team of US Vice President Kamala Harris ' campaign immediately posted a video of Trump's rally on X and emphasized: "He just awkwardly walked around the stage during the microphone incident."
